BUSINESS

In 2008, I left Academia for good.
Unfortunately, there are more "politicians" in Academia than in politics, leaving little room for real scientists.

In the beginning of 1990, I was trained by IBM to be a regional manager in Soviet Union for IBM on the territory larger than the size of the Western Europe. At that time, Soviet Union opened the borders for foreign companies for business. IBM decided to jump at this opportunity. Unfortunately for IBM, a few months later I defected to the West. At that time no one knew that Soviet Union ceased to exist only 1,5 years after that.

There is a big difference between working in an office of an established company, surrounded by 3 computers, 5 faxes and 10 staplers, and setting up a company from a scratch. It is an inborn ability to succeed in setting up a company from a scratch - you either have this ability or not. You cannot learn it at an MBA course. I was lucky - thanks to my parents - I was born with this ability.

Since 1989, I set up and managed 4 companies in 3 different countries.

"God gave me the stubbornness of a mule and a fairly keen scent." - Albert Einstein

Life is a journey.

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Lao Tzu

"If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right." - Henry Ford

"When a man is really at work, he needs no titles. His work honours him." - Henry Ford

Among who failed, most gave up and just a few were really defeated.

"It's not the most talented people who survive, but the ones with the most drive." - Norma Kamali

"Failure is only the opportunity to more intelligently begin again.
There is no disgrace in honest failure. There is disgrace in fearing to fail." - Henry Ford

“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.” - Henry Ford

“Two percent of the people think; three percent think they think, and 95 percent would rather die than think.” - Henry Ford

"... we do not hire experts - neither do we not hire men on past experiences ..."
"... we do not hire a man's history, we hire the man" - Henry Ford

"The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits."- Albert Einstein

"On résiste à l'invasion des armées; on ne résiste pas à l'invasion des idées."- Victor Hugo  (~ Nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come.)

In UK, the process of separation of founders of a company from the company is polished to a state of art. Venture capitalists do it with a big smile on their faces.
